So I'm having so much fun  with my wine glass classes that I decided to teach a class on Pet Portrait painting onto a treat jar.  I take my dog to K9 Wisdom in Loveland and was asked to teach a unique painting project.  I'll show you how to make a coloring book image of your fur baby Dec 16.

Na Pali Coast Cruise

I recently finished "Na Pali Coast Cruise", a 10 x 20" original oil.  This was a commission and a surprise.  I did some photo shopping with my reference pictures to get both the couple and the beautiful Hawaiian coast of Kauai in the scene.  I enjoy painting 'figures in  a landscape' and would gladly accept commissions for a keepsake that will last a lifetime.

Solvent free oil painting classes

 In my Thursday morning oil painting classes (Loveland, Colorado) I cover a variety of material.  In this project we were studying clouds.  We started with a simple black and white value scale and painted a gray monochromatic thumbnail proportional to the canvas we planned on painting.

Learning about composition, value & underpainting

 In my classes we play with different subject matter, techniques and color theory/experiments.  My goal is to teach you how to paint on your own.  We use traditional oil paints but do not use the dangerous or even odorless solvents as I find they are just as toxic as the rest.  I will teach you to safely paint without the use of them.  I currently have one opening in my class that has a maximum of 6 students.  Contact me for more information.

October 2017 newsletter

Hello!  I have several art events to tell you about.  My biggest show of the year is this weekend; the Loveland Art Studio  Tour  is Oct 14,15, 21 & 22 from 10-5 at my studio west of Loveland at 7700 Leslie Drive.  Once a year I open up my studio to the public where you can see my  original paintings & prints.  I also have a large inventory of unframed art priced to sell quickly.  new pastel; Pure Joy Friday, Oct 13th is the opening of the Regional show at the Lincoln Gallery from 6-9.  I have an oil painting that was accepted.  This local co-op gallery was recently voted as Best Gallery in Loveland & I'm proud to be represented there.

I have a painting at the Preview show for the Loveland Art Studio Tour at theLoveland Museum/Gallery.  Come & check it out during 2nd Friday Art Walk tomorrow night. I also have an oil in the All Colorado show which opens Saturday, Oct 15th at the Curtis Center for the Arts in Greenwood Village. I have a few of my Italy paintings at the Sweetheart City Winery in Loveland through the end of the year.  I also teach a monthly wine glass painting classwhich has been selling out.  As a result, I am offering wine glass painting parties for private groups.  For $40/person (minimum of 4 at my studio, 6 at your home)  I will supply 2 large wine glasses, supplies & instruction for each guest. You choose the design.   I've been having fun learning & teaching a new medium. I teach solvent free oil painting on Thursday mornings & watercolor on Wednesday mornings. Wine Glass Painting classes

I'm offering once a month wine glass painting classes at the new Sweetheart City Winery just west of Loveland, Colorado.  These classes have been a hit & are selling out.  Go to Eventbrite to purchase tickets.
For those  who have a private party already in mind, consider booking a 'wine glass painting party'. Fall newsletter 2017

Hello!  I hope everyone had a wonderful summer!  I have a couple of shows & new classes coming up. I will be starting my home studio classes in September.  On Wednesday mornings starting Sept 6th, I teach watercolor with drawing from 9-12.  Solvent free (using traditional oils)  oil painting starts  Sept 14 and meets  Thursdays from 9-12.   We cover techniques, materials, styles & experiment with a variety of subject matter.  Classes are $30.  I am also looking for students to occasionally 'drop in' when needed.   Email or call for more information. 970.613.1258. Something new I'm offering: Wine Glass painting.  I taught to a sold out group at the new Sweetheart Winery this month and have another scheduled Sept 18.  The winery is a brand new treasure of Loveland you don't want to miss.  You need to register for this class through this link. I am also offering private studio wine glass painting classes.  Gather 3-7 friends & you will receive 2 glasses & materials with instruction to paint.  I have several designs to choose from -or create your own.   $40 per person I have a few  adult classes I'm offering through the Loveland Museum Gallery. 2017 Mary Giacomini

I am proud to announce that "Joy Ride" (oil) was accepted in the 32nd Annual National Juried Fine Art & Photography Show and Sale in Louisville, Colorado.  I painted this horizontal original oil after plein air painting in Rocky Mountain National Park (Colorado).  I had a perfect  Autumn day to paint outside.  Two riders on horseback literally rode through my scene and I knew I had to capture it in the studio.

Pallet Knife Poppies

 This month at the Lincoln Gallery I'm showing some local scenes from Loveland.  "Pallet Knife Poppies" is a 20" x 16" oil with lots of impasto pallet knife painting in the orange poppies.  This was inspired by a scene on the West side of Loveland with Longs Peak and the Colorado Front Range receding in the distance.

Oasis
"Oasis" is a 12" x 9" plein air oil painting of the Devil's Backbone park just outside of Loveland, Colorado.  This is a favorite hiking trail in Larimer County. The park is normally desert-like but in Spring the Cottonwood trees were showing off  their green. I had fun carving paint with my pallet knife as a result this painting has lots of impasto.

Stillness
I painted this 9" x 12"  original oil painting en plein air very early in the morning at Rivers Edge Natural area in Loveland, Colorado.  The water was perfectly reflective and caught my eye. This is a popular city park with lots to offer.

Lincoln Gallery's National Show

Mesa Arch

I'm proud to announce that my watercolor, Mesa Arch was accepted into the Lincoln Gallery (Loveland, CO) National Show which opens March 31.  The opening is April 14, 2017 from 6-9 PM and the public is invited to attend.
I played with a new technique with this original watercolor.  I masked spaces and let the paint flow within each space. I wanted to keep the paint as fresh as possible so used very little to no glazing.  I also used a limited pallet which helps give the painting cohesiveness. The scene was inspired by the gorgeous view in Canyonlands National Park in Utah.  This painting is available for sale.

Every few months, I  send out an email of my latest art, shows and classes.  Here is the latest one.

This is an example of what I teach in my (solvent) free oil painting classes.  I taught my students how to look at composition and value first, then paint with  thinned transparent oxide red oil paint for an underpainting.  Below is the finished piece.  The inspiration was a view from Hungry Horse Reservoir in Montana.
