Flowers for Georgia

"Flowers for Georgia" is the example I made to get the hang of Georgia O'Keeffe feminine  abstract style before I taught two pastel classes for the Loveland Museum a few weeks ago.  I've always loved her style but I have even more appreciation for it now.  It was also very freeing and fun to paint!  This class was such a hit that I will teach something similar this fall...

Verticle Panoramic Painting: Glacier

This scene is from Glacier National Park, Montana.  This original oil (13" x 5") "Soul Reflections" is currently for sale in The Grand Lake Gallery in Grand Lake, Colorado.

"Logan Pass" is a  17.5" x 8.5" original oil painting I recently had accepted into the Art Association of Northern Colorado's National Show in Ft Collins, Colorado.  I found this scene driving up the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park, Montana and "stitched" several digital vertical photos to create the panoramic vertical painting.

Fog in the Rockies

"Into The Mist" (pastel) was recently sold at Mountain Living Studio in Manitou Springs, Colorado.  I do have prints and cards that can be ordered directly  through fineartamerica.com.   This atmospheric painting from Rocky Mountain National Park is a scene I came upon after driving over Trail Ridge Road in heavy fog and snow. (in July!)  The  visibility didn't improve until I was near the Continental Divide.
More impressionistic paintings of mine can be seen on fine art america.

A Portrait of my Parents

I painted "Lasting Love"; a portrait of my parents with soft pastels.  They were happily married for 50+ years, a rarity these days.  They were sitting on a bench at Lake Loveland (Loveland, Colorado) with Longs Peak in the distance.  Although I would never part with this painting, I do have prints available at fineartamerica.com.

Kitten Love

"Kitten Love" is a watercolor portrait I painted of when my daughter was young with her new kitten.  I did win an award for this painting in a local show but it's a keepsake I can't sell.
I am open to do commissions for others who would like to have their moment in time captured in a painting.

The Proposal

I painted this pastel commission for a wedding gift from the groom to the bride.  He planned a very romantic proposal in New York's Central Park.  He didn't have images of the event but wanted me to recreate it with photos of the fountain they were near along with different pictures of themselves.  I put it together (eliminating the other people nearby) and they loved it.

Classical nude: male

It always amazes me how really good models can barely flinch in 20 minute poses.  I painted "Nathan" alla prima (one 3 hour session) with pastel on suede board at one of my weekly figure and portrait sessions

Gazing

At last night's weekly portrait and figure painting session our model was dressed up like a gypsy  and she even brought a crystal ball.  We also had music that went with last night's theme so everyone could get in their "zone".  This oil painting is 12" x 9" on canvas and  can be purchased for $75.00 plus $6 shipping.

A Watercolor painting in progress...

Quite often when I paint with watercolor, I first plan out my painting, saving the whites.  I also like to use a purple under painting to get rich shadows using transparent watercolors.  This progression shows how I build up layers for the finished piece.  At the end of the painting I "pop" the colors and values.  This 28.5" x 21" watercolor of "San Juan Capistrano" is for sale.  Prints are also available through fineartamerica.com

St Francis of Assisi

I painted "St Francis of Assisi" in watercolor after a painting trip to Taos, New Mexico.  This is the famous old church that Georgia O'Keeffe painted except mine is in a realistic style.
