Plein Air Rockies 2014

The next big show on my horizon is "Plein Air Rockies 2014".  I was juried into this plein air event along with about 40 other artists from various places around the country.   Artists will paint  from Aug 9-21, 2014 outdoors, in areas within a 50 mile radius of Estes Park, the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park in Northern Colorado.

Currently there is a 'preview' show for the event where samples of each chosen artist is showcased at the Cultural Event Council Gallery downtown Estes Park.  I have a pastel "Tree Yoga" and and an oil "Serenity" in this show.   Both of these pieces were created in my studio but are from images of Rocky Mountain National Park.  Artists are permitted to paint where they choose within the boundary but there will larger groups to observe during the scheduled paint outs. The final reception and show is held on August 23 from 5-8pm where the public can view and/or purchase these freshly made masterpieces.  Tune in to my blog for my latest creations.

FASTFRAME-Greeley

Cool Ride

This oil painting, "Cool Ride" along with several other original paintings and giclees are currently on display at FASTFRAME- Greeley, Colorado.  They invited me to be their featured artist for the month of August 2012.  The theme for this show is Peaceful Places.  I also brought a variety of mountain and forest landscapes inspired by the Rocky Mountains.  Check out their store and my Colorado art.

The Loveland Art Studio Tour 2011 was a success. Gold Rush

I have to admit that "Gold Rush" has been one of my very favorite paintings.  This 30" x 15" pastel won a juror's choice (Best of Show)  at an art show at the Lincoln Gallery in Loveland, Colorado.  I did have the piece scanned for high resolution giclees.

"Group Therapy"

"Group Therapy" is a commissioned (sold) 15" x 30" oil painting of a favorite beach in Hawaii.  It was a perfect day in a tropical paradise.  The water was an incredible blue and the sand almost white.  Giclees or paper prints can be ordered of this image through fineartamerica.com

"Maggie's Chair"

"Moraine Park Fishing: framed giclee on watercolor paper of a fly fisherman

"Moraine Park Fishing" is a 24" x 36" pastel that was commissioned and sold but I had it scanned for high resolution giclees.  I have one at home that I am willing to sell for below retail.  It is an Artist Proof (only one) that is 12" x 17" on archival watercolor paper.   It is matted with a white mat into a 24" x 30", 3" wide, dark wood frame with some gold.  The scene is from Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado in autumn.   If you have a fly fisherman on your Christmas list, this would make a unique, ideal gift. I am willing to sell this piece for $250 (the frame alone wholesale was $89) with free shipping.

"Andrews Glacier": Alpine hike in the Rocky Mountains

"Andrews Glacier" is a 14" x 11" original oil painting that is sold but giclees are available of this image through: fineartamerica.

The scene is from a favorite hike in Rocky Mountain National Park in northern Colorado.  The Loch, up Glacier Gorge is  peaceful, inspiring, and a reward after several miles of hiking up.

"Maggie's Chair"

"Into The Mist" a Pastel Painting of Colorado

"Into the Mist" is a 10.75" x 8" pastel that is for sale. The scene is from Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, near the Continental Divide. I had just driven across Trail Ridge Road in heavy fog (scary at 11,000 feet!) when it started to break up. I had to stop to take pictures so I could paint the scene: a hike down the Poudre River headwaters.

Do your watercolors have depth? Learn how to use transparent watercolors with purple underpainting to your advantage to get a stained glass, glowing look.

Watercolor: Reflective Light
Saturday, February 28

Students will learn to see how the color of one object influences the color on adjacent objects.

Watercolor: Juicy Flowers
Saturday, March 7 10:30 am – 1:30 pm
Students will use puddles of bright colors to create fresh, lively paintings from flowers.
Supplies are provided, although you may bring some of your own if preferred. Some experience may be helpful but is not required.
Fee: $45 per session or $120 for all three.
