Plein air pastel

These are a few pictures from my pastel class winding up for the season. We had a plein air day in my backyard  (in the Colorado foothills) to give everyone a taste of painting outside.  I will start regular classes out of my home studio in the fall.  What a great group of artists!   Contact me  if you are interested in finding out about classes I teach.

2011 Transformations Project

This is the  3-D sketch that I painted (11" x 11" x 7") for a design competition of the 2011 Transformations Project "Historic Loveland".  My rendition of Fort Namaqua (established in 1859; the first settlement of the Thompson Valley in Colorado) was one of several designs chosen for this summer's project. I will be using acrylic paint on an approximately 75" x 75" x 45" utility box.  More details to follow in the coming months.

Afternoon Delight

Afternoon Delight
Decisions: Should I take a nap in the palm tree shaded  hammock, swim in the blue Pacific, or take a break in a private hut?
I just finished "Afternoon Delight", a 15" x 30" original oil painting commissioned by a favorite client.  This scene is from Fiji using over a dozen reference photos.  This is the 5th beach painting of mine that will adorn the walls of the Suite Spa (Loveland, Colorado) as soon as the paint dries!  Although this painting is sold, prints and giclees can be ordered through Fine Art America.

Happy Mothers Day!

Grandma's Secret

I drew this drawing of my Mother holding my son (many years ago) from a favorite photo I took on a memorable vacation we took with my parents on the Oregon coast. Capturing a favorite moment with a photo is priceless; capturing it in a piece of art is a keepsake.
