I will be teaching a series of beginning drawing classes at the Loveland (Colorado) Chilson Center:
Basics of Drawing Workshops
Sign up for one or all of the workshops! Each workshop is small to
guarantee plenty of individual attention. The classes meet on select Monday nights in September and October 2010 from 6:30- 9:30. No experience necessary.
Instructor: Mary Giacomini
DRAW WHAT YOU SEE: Learn the basics of drawing that you will
apply to many creative projects/paintings. Do drawing exercises
that activate the right side of your brain and enable you to draw
what you see. Then go over contour drawing, shading and more.
SEE THE LIGHT: Learn to give your drawing depth. Learn about
seeing value and how to shade & crosshatch to give your drawing
the illusion of depth. We will use simple objects to draw from life.
COMPOSING A MASTERPIECE: Learn to make a strong composition
of your drawing. Draw a still life and incorporate looking at
the negative space, using different texture techniques, seeing
proportion, value and how objects relate to one another.
PUTTING THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE: Learn architectural (linear:
buildings, roads), as well aerial (landscape) perspectives. After
practice, draw a cityscape or landscape. Please bring your own
reference photo or instructor will provide.
FACES and FIGURES: Learn the basics of drawing portraits and figures,
and how to use them for making a face recognizable. Use conte
crayons on pastel paper. Bring a mirror (for self portrait) or an
