It's all about the light

 These are some of the portraits & figures I have created alla prima (one session) in the figure drawing & painting group I attend weekly.  We alternate with a handful of beautiful talented models.  This is the same model who knows how to stay in a pose.   We draw/paint for 3 hours with breaks for the models.  I like to work on toned paper when I draw. I use a little white charcoal for a few highlights.

Beautiful Nude Backs

I find that drawing or painting the nude back to be sensual.  It can be harder to capture but I love the challenge.  These drawings were all finished alla prima in a weekly life drawing group that I attend.  All are for sale, inquire for availability.

Portraits of W

These portraits were all done in one 3 hour session (each) alla prima. I feel like these oil paintings & drawing all captured different modes of my dear friend who posed.  My favorite is the one below that I titled "Wild Man."

Romantic nude couples

These drawings were all drawn alla prima; one 3 hour session each.  In the weekly uninstructed life drawing/painting group that I belong to, we occasionally have two models as a treat.  I find my drawing evening with friends/like minded souls is a day I look forward to.  Life drawing isn't easy, but a challenge I love.  I admire the models who can slip right back into a pose, even if it is uncomfortable.

Companions

Companions

"Companions" is an 8" x 10" oil I recently completed. It started out as a plein air in my backyard but was finished in the studio.  I got too carried away with the intricacies of the wedding ring quilt to finish it outside.  I love quilts and old chairs, anything that has history was most likely well made.  This is the second clothesline/quilt I've painted-and probably not the last.  Both paintings are for sale; Contact me for availability.

Serenity: The Loch paintings

"Serenity"

This is a newly painted oil painting is of a favorite place of mine in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.  I have hiked to The Loch many times and have painted several scenes from it as well. The landscape is inspiring with a clear natural lake, rugged peaks and Andrews Glacier.  This latest painting is a view of The Loch in the summer with quiet reflections of the alpine scenery.   This 16" x 12" original oil painting is for sale, contact me for availability.

Retreat

Retreat

"Retreat" is a brand new 20" x 16" oil painting I recently finished.  I have painted a similar scene before; "Island Lake".  Both paintings are from the Kootenay Mountains in  British Columbia, Canada.  I hiked through old growth forest around this beautiful alpine lake to find the most inspiring scenes. Save the Poudre!

This week and next, I am participating in the juried event, "Paint the Poudre Plein Air." There are 39 artists from Colorado and other states participating in this 9 day event which will raise money for "Save the Poudre".  The Poudre River is a wild and scenic river in Northern Colorado.  To keep it wild, Save the Poudre is trying to block drainage of this river for  proposed reservoirs.  The Poudre is used by fisherman, rafters, kayak-ers, artists, hikers, and others who enjoy one of the last rivers in Colorado that has not been damned.  

These are few of the plein air (created outdoors) mini oils that I have painted with many more to come.  Artists will pick their favorite 3 paintings and they will be for sale at the AANC gallery in Ft. Collins, Colorado on July 12-14, 2013.

Paint the Poudre Plein Air

I am going to participate in a new plein air event for Northern Colorado: Paint the Poudre.  The event runs from July 2 -11, 2013.  There are 39 professional artists that were juried into this event/show.  The paintings that will be created either along the Poudre River or in old town Fort Collins will be for sale at the Artists Association of Northern Colorado's gallery in Fort Collins for one weekend only.  If you would like to be a sponsor follow this link.

Oil Painting: Basics and Beyond

My Space

This summer I'm offering a variety of mini workshops at my home studio in lieu of my weekly painting classes.  On August 21 & 22 from 9AM-12PM I will be teaching 
 "Oil Painting: Basics & Beyond". If you have ever thought about taking oil classes without the commitment of buying supplies this class is for you.  This class will cover techniques, safe use of oils, color theory, brush strokes-basically everything to get you started.  All supplies included.  No experience necessary.  Contact me for more information.
