Rabbit Ears Pass

My plein air set up
This summer I'm offering a variety of mini workshops at my home studio in lieu of my weekly painting classes.  The first workshop is June 6, 2013: Plein Air Oil Painting, 9AM-3PM.  In this class you will learn some basics of plein air painting in a safe environment.  We will paint in my backyard (country/foothills views) in the morning light.  In the afternoon we will begin a studio piece from the morning painting session.  Bring a sack lunch. No experience necessary.  Contact me for more information.

Oversize Giclee available

Gold Rush
I painted "Gold Rush" with soft pastel several years ago.  It has been one of my favorite paintings that I intend to keep, but giclees on canvas or paper are available for sale either through me or Art for Conservation.  I just sold a 45" x 22.5" canvas giclee to the new Comprehensive Cancer Center at Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette, Colorado.  I'm anxious to see how this 150% of original giclee will look at the not yet open facility.

Freedom

"Freedom"

"Freedom" is a newly finished watercolor-which already has a home.  The painting (13" x 29") is of a herd of wild mustangs near Cortez, Colorado.  Although the original is sold, prints can be ordered through Fine Art America.  I had a wonderful reference,  thanks to the Main Event Photography for giving me permission to use this wonderful image of free horses.  The background is loose and colorful to depict the distant mountains of Colorado.

Memories in the Making

Lake Haiyaha
On Tuesday, May 21st there is a live art auction benefiting the Alzheimer's Association of Northern Colorado.  As a local professional artist, I was asked to create a painting paired with a piece of artwork of an Alzheimer's patient.  I chose 'Splendor in the Mountains" to inspire my interpretation.  I painted "Lake Haiyaha" in oil (12"x 9").  This is a scene I encountered on a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park,  Colorado.   All proceeds benefits the Alzheimer's Association.

Alla Prima Tulip painting

"Juicy" watercolor
For this past week's classes I bought 2 different bouquets of pastel pink flowers.  In the Wednesday morning watercolor class we drew an accurate drawing of the flowers, then wet each petal or leaf individually to get a controlled,  yet loose depiction.  I chose not to paint my background as I liked the white with the soft painting.

"Frosty" oil
Using the same pastel pink tulips, I painted "Frosty" mostly with a pallet knife and lots of impasto.  I taught my students in my Thursday Oil Painting class to block in & draw with a brush, but then have fun swirling the paint around.  This 14 x 11" oil painting was done Alla Prima (one session) as was the watercolor.

Oil and Watercolor classes for adults

I teach beginning-intermediate art classes out of my studio in West Loveland, Colorado.  Wednesdays is the watercolor class and another group meets for oil painting classes on Thursdays. Instead of a 'copy me' class I teach students what they want to learn: to be able to paint their own vision. I teach some basic principles and techiniques from the workshops and classes I've attended, painting with peers and my college days studying for my BFA.
Classes have a maximum of 5 students to ensure plenty of attention.  We meet from 9AM-12 PM each week.  I do offer drop in classes as well, on a space available basis. Class costs are $25 per class if you sign up for the entire month and $27 per class drop in.  I have over 10 years experience teaching and my students end up becoming good friends.  If you would like more information you can message me for more details.

Pikes Peak Glow

Pikes Peak Glow (oil)

I was driving up out of Divide, Colorado  last September when I noticed the fleeting last light on Pikes Peak Autumn was beginning to color the Aspen groves golden yellow and fresh snow was on the Rocky Mountains.  This spectacular view turned to be just one of many on this weekend plein air camping trip.  This original oil measures 6 5/8" x 14" and is for sale.  Message me for current availability.

Autumn Impasto

This brand new oil painting was inspired by an autumn hike in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I used lots of oil paint with a pallet knife to achieve the impasto.  I love to hike in Rocky Mountain National Park, especially in the fall.  There is nothing like a crisp, sunny day to enjoy the Aspen change.

Kebler Pass

Kebler Pass Gold (oil)
Late last September I had the good fortune to spend a long weekend near Crested Butte, Colorado.  The aspens were at their prime in select areas including the drive over Kebler Pass.  There is something magical about autumn in the Rocky Mountains.  This is where I took the reference photo for this new oil "Kebler Pass Gold".   This original oil painting on  thick museum wrapped canvas has plenty of impasto. "Kepler Pass Gold" measures 12" x 6" and is for sale.
